Mile High Biscuits

3 C flour
4 ½ tsp baking powder
2 T sugar
½ tsp salt
¾ tsp cream of tartar
¾ C butter (chilled)
1 egg
1 C milk
Preheat  oven to 425 degrees.  Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and  cream of tartar in a medium mixing bowl.  Add chilled butter and cut  into the flour mixture.  The mixture should resemble small peas.  Add  one beaten egg and milk.  Mix until it forms a ball.  Mixture may be  sticky.  Knead 4 or 5 times and roll out on board.  Sprinkle with flour  as needed.  Cut out biscuits and place on cookie sheet.  Bake at 425  degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.
